Huw Dann

Huw Dann is the Section Principal Trumpet of the Auckland Philharmonia and Brass Unit Coordinator at the University of Auckland. He grew up in Melbourne and studied wih Sue Wedding at Blackburn High School. Later at the Victorian College of the Arts he studied with Rob Sims, Tristram Williams and Geoffrey Payne. He was a member of the Sydney Sinfonia where he was mentored by Bach Artist Daniel Mendelow. Huw regularly attended the Chosen Vale International trumpet seminars in America and moved to Auckland in 2009 to take up his job in the APO. He has always loved chamber music and formed the brass trio Auckland Chamber Ensemble Brass in 2011. Outside of music, Huw enjoys playing chess, long distance running, watching Australian Rules Football, and spending as much time as possible with his wife and two young children.
