James Stokes

James M. Stokes, Jr. performs across the US and internationally in orchestral, commercial, jazz, solo, and chamber music. Dr. Stokes is the Professor of Trumpet in the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University, principal trumpet of the Symphony of the Mountains and a Vincent Bach Artist. Stokes, Brent Bingham and ASU/HSOM hosted the 2019 William Adam International Trumpet Festival with guest artist Chris Botti. As a clinician, he has hosted masterclasses across the US and in China. He has performed with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Charlotte Symphony, Asheville Symphony, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, CAPA Broadway Series, and with John Williams, Doc Severinsen, Don Henley, Aretha Franklin, O'Jays, Barry Manilow, Canadian Brass, and many others. Stokes is a student of William Adam, Richard Burkart, and Kieg Garvin.
