John Freeman

John Freeman is a classical trumpet player and teacher based in the San Francisco Bay Area. John holds Principal Trumpet positions in four professional orchestras: San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, the Fresno Philharmonic, the Stockton Symphony, and the Marin Symphony. He is also 3rd Trumpet of the Oakland Symphony, and 2nd Trumpet of Opera San Jose. When he's not performing with these groups, he can often be heard freelancing with groups such as the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Ballet, the Santa Rosa Symphony, or the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra, among others. Before moving to the Bay Area, John was the Principal Trumpet of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra in South Carolina. He attended the Cleveland Institute of Music and studied with Michael Sachs, Jim Darling, and Michael Miller. John is the professor of trumpet at San Jose State University. When he’s not performing or teaching music, John enjoys road cycling, mountain biking and home roasting coffee.
