Marie Speziale

Acknowledged as the first woman trumpeter in a major symphony orchestra, Marie Speziale retired from the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in 1996 after serving as Associate Principal Trumpet for 32 years (1964-1996). She has served on the faculties of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Miami University, Indiana University, and the Rice University, where she retired Professor Emerita. She has performed with the Cincinnati Pops, Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Ballet, St. Louis Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet, Houston Symphony, Colorado Orchestra, Lousiana Philharmonic, Tokyo International Music Festival, Summit Brass, Monarch Brass, DIVA and has recorded for Star Trek Voyager, Deep Space 9 and James Brown. Past president of the International Women’s Brass Conference, she serves on its Emerita Board, is a member of the ITG, faculty at the Round Top International Music Festival and serves on the Board of the American Classical Music Hall of Fame.
