Randall Hawes

Randall Hawes was appointed bass trombonist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra  1985 and retired in 2020. He attended Central Michigan University, where he studied with William Rivard. He was a member of the Woody Herman Thundering Herd for two years and the Tanglewood Fellowship Orchestra before joining the DSO. Mr. Hawes has performed as an extra and substitute with the orchestras of Alabama, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh and with the Chicago Chamber Musicians. He has been associated with the World Orchestra for Peace since 1995 when he was invited to join by Sir Georg Solti, and has joined Solti’s successor, Valery Gergiev on several tours.He has been a member of the Saito Kinen music festival , working with Seiji Ozawa and Fabio Luisi. Mr. Hawes has two cds released; Melodrama and Barn Burner. He is a member of the National Brass Ensemble and he has taught as a lecturer at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois since 2004.
