Gary Ziek

Dr. Gary D. Ziek (Roe R. Cross Distinguished Professor of Music) is the Director of Bands and Professor of Trumpet at Emporia State University. He has received the President’s Award for Research and Creativity (2017-2018), Liberal Arts and Sciences Award for Scholarship and Creativity (1997-1998 and 2011-2012), and Excellence in Teaching Award (2014-2015).

Dr. Ziek is a Bach Trumpet Artist, and has performed and conducted in twenty-five states, as well as in France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, China, and Canada. He enjoys music in all styles and has performed in such groups as the US Army Continental Army Band, Virginia Beach Pops Orchestra, Emporia State University Brass Quintet and Faculty Jazz Combo, and the Free State and Fountain City Brass Bands.

He received his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Wind Conducting from Michigan State University. He received his Master of Arts in Trumpet Performance and his Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. His compositions and arrangements have been played throughout the United States, including performances at the University of South Carolina, The Ohio State University, Utah State University, Boston University, University of Nebraska-Omaha, University of Miami, Kansas City Wind Symphony, and by the Summit Brass at the Raphael Mendez Brass Institute in Colorado. He has also had performances in Carnegie Hall (NYC) and at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Convention in Chicago, Illinois.

International performances of his works include concerts in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, The Netherlands, Spain, England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Germany, Australia, Ecuador, Japan, Norway, Macau, China, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
