Artist's Biography

Iain Hunter is the principal trombone of the Mexico City Philharmonic since 2013. Prior to that he served as principal trombone in the Querétaro Philharmonic, and the Sinaloa Symphony Orchestra of Arts. Iain now teaches at the School of Music: Life and Movement Ollin Yolitzli, the Facultad de Música UNAM, and the Panamerican University in Mexico City. He also is Principal trombone of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería since 2012.

Iain holds degrees from Canterbury University - Bachelor of Music,Oregon State University - Bachelor of Science in Music,Indiana University - Master of Music / Performance Certificate. Iain also completed Doctoral work at The University of Georgia.

His principal teachers were Warren Baker, M. Dee Stewart, Dr Philip Jameson and Fred Mills. Additional study and coaching's from: Joseph Alessi, Mark Lawrence, Peter Ellefson, Edward Kleinhammer, Karl Lenthe, Abbie Conant, Stephen Burns, Daniel Perantoni, Michael Hatfield, and Harvey Philips.

Iain Hunter has also participated in many important international music festivals including: First International Festival of Brass Carlos Gomez, in Campinas, Brazil (2009), 34th Winter Festival De Campos Do Jordao, Tatuí, Brazil, and Hartwick College Summer Music Festival, Oneonta, New York, USA, and many more throughout Mexico.

Originally from New Zealand, Iain began his musical studies in his hometown of Christchurch where he was appointed principal trombone in the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra in 1987. Before obtaining a scholarship to the United States he made several tours of Japan, Hong Kong, China, and Australia as a soloist and member of the Christchurch Youth Brass Band. During this period he also served as a member of the New Zealand Youth Orchestra. Iain Hunter performs exclusively on Vincent Bach Tenor Trombone.
