The only Conn Selmer endorsing artist in Alaska. Featured on an international list of 59 clarinetists. Can play a glissando over both register breaks for 3 octaves. Clarinet professors and symphony players consider this impossible. Only 3 other people are known to have done this. A range of over 4 octaves on clarinet and 6 and a half octaves on saxophone.John McKimmey was the first university student to perform William D. Cole's transcription of the Copland Clarinet Concerto with a wind ensemble. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval School of Music and Western Washington University. He taught in public school for 25 years. He has taught over 4000 people to play musical instruments. His private students have been first chair players in the Anchorage Youth Symphony, and the First Chair Clarinetist for the All Northwest Band; which includes musicians from Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana.John has played professionally for over 50 years.
