Portrait of Mark Mullins

Artist

Mark Mullins

New Orleans trombonist and horn arranger Mark Mullins has been changing the way people think about the trombone and horn sections for over 20 years and is often given credit for raising the trombone to lead instrument status in the modern funk, rock, and jam band music scenes.

Early in his career, his unique tone and powerful horn arrangements quickly garnered the attention of giants of the local and national music industry. Mark was a pioneer using electronic effects with his horn in a way previously used only by guitarists to enhance his lead lines as a guitarist would. He’s also been a major force composing arrangements for multiple trombones in the groundbreaking band he co-founded, Bonerama which tackles everything from original compositions to Led Zeppelin, Beatles, and Black Sabbath.

Mark has become a top call when major record and tour producers look to add a dynamic New Orleans flavor to their albums and in recent years he has served as horn arranger/producer for Blackbird Presents series of concerts featuring Don Was as musical director. Broadcast credits include HBO’s Comic Relief (musical director), Lynyrd Skynyrd: One More For The Fans – Blackbird Presents (AXS), Mavis Staples: I’ll Take You There – Blackbird Presents (AXS), The Late Show, Tonight Show, Grammy Awards, and many more.
