Michael Cox
Michael Cox is currently the Second Trombonist of the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra. He has previously served as the Principal Trombonist of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Quad City Symphony Orchestra. Michael has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.Michael earned his Bachelor’s degree in trombone performance from Northwestern University and his Master’s degree in trombone performance from the New England Conservatory. In 2017, Michael was a fellow of the New York Philharmonic Zarin Mehta Fellowship. Additionally, he has been a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and Music Academy of the West. He has also been an associate member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. His primary teachers include Toby Oft, Michael Mulcahy, Timothy Higgins, Peter Ellefson, Randall Hawes, Christopher Davis, and Douglas Wright.Outside of the orchestra, Michael enjoys cooking, swimming, and playing chess.
