Richard Lopez

Richard L. Lopez, a former trombone student of Jerry Barnett, was a member of the ‘83 Denver C.E.C. High School Jazz Combo with Javon Jackson and Brad Leali and the Colorado All-State Jazz Ensemble with Greg Gisbert, Mike Abbott and Scott Wendholt. Studied under Frank Gagliardi and Trombone Prof. Bobby Scann at UNLV. Performed in Las Vegas with Joe Williams, Marlena Shaw, Tony Orlando & Dawn, Wayne Newton, Rich Little, Del Shannon, Mary Wells, Sam & Dave, Pete Barbutti, Jimmie Walker, Joan Rivers, Michael K. Miller's Solid Gold Dancers, Carl Fontana, Chuck Findley, Louis Bellson, Pete Christlieb, Raoul Romero, Si Zentner, Bobby Shew, Carl Saunders, George Roberts, Scott Tibbs, Paul Taylor, Walter J. Blanton, Don Menza, Tex Richardson, and Robert Guillaume. Performed in Alan Grant's Four Queens Jazz Night From Las Vegas in the ‘80s and was guest artist at 76 Trombones +4 in ‘02 and with the Central Washington University Jazz Band in 2012. In PNW, Richard performed with The O'Jays, Natalie Cole, Jerry Lewis, Frank Sinatra Jr., Bob Newhart, Nelson Riddle And His Orchestra, Lyfe Jennings, William Kennedy, Larry Harlow, Solomon Douglas Swingtet, The Bill Ramsay/Milt Kleeb Band, Dan Greenblatt, Clarence Acox, Jay Thomas and his Friendly Fire and Usual Suspects Big Bands, Joe Koplin's Joy of Sextet, Pierce College Jazz Ensemble, Trombanga, Orquestra Cambalache, Bones NW, Obrador, Bert Wilson & Rebirth, the 2007 Centrum Port Townsend Jazz Festival All-Star Big Band directed by Gerald Wilson, Rich Wetzel's Groovin' Higher, Erev Rav Klezmer Orchestra, Joe Baque, Chuck Stentz, Norm Wallen, Frank Minear and the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra. Director of groups the Olympia Jazz Initiative Big Band, Native Blue Sextet, Bob Nixon Tribute Big Band, Momenti Rubati and Jazz Express. Recorded with Abney Park and Peter Sloan. Richard was music faculty at St. Martin Univ, Pacific Lutheran Univ, South Puget Sound CC and Centralia College. Graduated with a B.A. at The Evergreen State College in Trombone History under Prof. Julian Priester. He is the sole founder of the Olympia Jazz Central group (2009). Richard was also a member of the 500-piece 1986 Statue of Liberty All-American Marching Band and is a King artist and clinician with Conn-Selmer.
