Rick VanMatre

Rick VanMatre is one of the most exploratory saxophonists in the worlds of jazz, classical, and progressive music and has presented solo recitals and jazz club performances throughout the US, Europe, and Asia. In addition to his recordings with original compositions, he has performed and recorded as jazz soloist with the PsychoAcoustic Orchestra, Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, New Third Stream Quartet, Roland Vazquez, Kim Pensyl, and the Ellington and Herman orchestras. As classical saxophonist, he has appeared with the Cincinnati Symphony, concert:nova, and James Conlon’s Linton Series. He has commissioned unique jazz/classical concerti and performed them with orchestras including the New York Repertory Orchestra and Sichuan Symphony Orchestra (China). VanMatre is Professor Emeritus at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he produced numerous recordings, one of which was described by Cadence magazine as a “necessary part of any big-band enthusiast's library.
