Steve Carmichael
Dr. Steve Carmichael resides in Reston, Virginia where he performs with his wife Karen Judkins in the saxophone and flute duo Colshire Winds and is a freelance musician in the greater Washington DC area. Serving for 20 years as a saxophone and flute instrumentalist with the US Navy Music Program, he has performed for audiences in over 40 countries. In demand as a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe. He has served as Director of Jazz Studies at Carthage College, Kenosha, Wisconsin and lecturer at the University of Wisconsin – Rock County. Steve has performed at the Monterrey Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Yokohama Jazz Festival, US Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium, and North American Saxophone Alliance regional and national conferences. He has performed with the San Diego Symphony, Chattanooga Symphony, NHK Tokyo Symphony, Chicago’s Northshore Concert Band, Nelson Riddle Orchestra, The San Diego Wind Ensemble, Arlington Concert Band, and the Fairfax Wind Symphony. As a supporter of new music, he has commissioned over 35 new works for saxophone. He has also composed and recorded his own new music compositions.
