Vince Dominguez

Dr. Vince Dominguez is an award-winning Mexican clarinetist, music educator, administrator, and drag artist based in Providence, RI. An in-demand music educator and clinician, he serves on the faculty at the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School, Rhode Island College, and has taught masterclasses and guest lectures at schools across the country since 2017. Dominguez maintains an active performance career, performing as a solo artist, chamber musician, and subs with orchestras across New England. He has performed and presented at conferences for the International Clarinet Association (ICA), the Arizona Music Educators Association, the College Music Society, and the North American Saxophone Alliance and SPHINX. Outside of music education and performance, Vince has 10 years of experience in administration, holding communications & marketing leadership roles with non-profit organizations and commercial brands. Creating as Claire Annette, his drag persona, Dominguez delivers style, musical virtuosity, and electrifying live performances by way of drag performance as the world’s premier drag clarinetist, subverting old expectations in classical music, building new audiences, and inspiring new generations to own their power and feel represented in classical music during a time where queer rights are being dismantled nationwide. Just ahead, Claire Annette will be featured as a Headlining Artist at the 2024 ICA ClarinetFest conference in Dublin, Ireland, an unprecedented evolution in conference programming. Dr. Dominguez completed their doctoral studies at Arizona State University in 2020 where he held one of two competitive graduate teaching assistantships. His DMA project featured a performance guide and three commissioned works for clarinet by acclaimed Mexican composers Victor Ibarra, Hilda Paredes, and Juan Trigos. Vince is a past NALAC Leadership Institute fellow and Conn-Selmer Performing Artist, proudly performing on Henri SELMER Paris Privilège clarinets.
