Carley Johnson
Dr. Carly Johnson serves as Chair of the Department of Music at Alabama State University located in Montgomery, Alabama. At ASU, she teaches applied trumpet, music education courses, and directs the ASU Trumpet Ensemble. During her tenure at ASU, she has been nominated twice for the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. She received the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University, the Master of Music degree in Trumpet Performance from the University of Florida, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Trumpet Performance from The Ohio State University. She is a versatile musician, having appeared as a clinician, soloist, and chamber musician throughout North America and Europe. As a soloist, she was awarded 1st Prize in the trumpet division at the 2010 Susan B. Slaughter International Solo Brass Competition hosted by the International Women’s Brass Conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
