Rules and Regulations

  1. Preliminary Recorded Round
    1. All applicants must register and pay ALL FEES ON-LINE. Applicants must register online using a valid credit card and ONE (only) valid e-mail address. An applicant’s recording will not be reviewed unless payment is received by the October 1st, 2024 deadline. Application fee is $40.
    2. All applicants must submit a video recording of the Hummel Concerto in Eb, performed on Bb piston trumpet with piano accompaniment and orchestral excerpts as listed for recorded round. The introduction to the Hummel can be eliminated. Applicants are responsible for mastering this process and for making a successful upload. Applicants are strongly urged to verify that their link functions properly prior to submitting their application. Every aspect of this part of the process is the responsibility of the applicant. Applicant videos should not contain any content or pieces beyond the competition repertoire.
    3. Stopping/starting, editing, or splicing of any kind is prohibited during the Hummel Concerto. Orchestral Excerpts can be recorded in a separate video from solo but must be recorded in the same sitting for this portion of the recording.
    4. Videos must contain exactly and only what is to be performed in the recorded round.
    5. Recordings must be successfully submitted by 11:59:59 PM Eastern Standard Time, October 1; there will be no exceptions. Videos must be uploaded UNLISTED (not Private) to YouTube and the link to the video provided in the online Conn Selmer application. Videos not viewable by the judging panel will be disqualified.
    6. Uploaded videos may NOT contain any indications of the applicant’s school or teacher affiliations.
  2. Age Requirements: Applicants must be 25 or under as of October 26th, 2024.
  3. Rules pertaining to each round:
    1. All orchestral excerpts and solos are to be performed on either Bb or C piston trumpet.
    2. Conn Selmer will provide an accompanist unless the applicant brings their own.
    3. Semi-finalists (5) will be notified on October 16 via email.
    4. Semi-Finalist will rehearse with accompanist and Axiom Brass during the afternoon and evening of November 15th at a time to be determined.
    5. All semi-finalists are responsible for their own travel, meals, and lodging.
    6. Final Orchestral Section Round will be performed with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
  4. Rules Disclaimer (PLEASE READ!)
    1. Final interpretation of all rules remains with the Conn Selmer Company. All applicants accept total responsibility for the understanding of and compliance with Conn Selmer rules and regulations. Failure to adhere to Conn Selmer’s rules and regulations will result in disqualification and forfeiture of all fees.

1st Prize: A new Bach Trumpet (any model), $1,000, and a solo appearance Elkhart Symphony Orchestra

2nd Prize: A new Bach Trumpet (any model)

3rd Prize: $1,000

Hummel Concerto in E♭, Movement 1

Must be performed on B♭ Trumpet with piano accompaniment. Orchestral Excerpts can be recorded in a separate video from solo but must be recorded in the same sitting for this portion of the recording.
