John Charles Thomas

John Charles Thomas is assistant principal trumpet with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. He has performed frequently with the New York Philharmonic,L'Orchestrede la SuisseRomande,SolistiNew York, Trier Bach Soloists and the Vienna Symphony, and was for 18 years a member of the Chestnut Brass Company.John has appeared in Europe, Asia, Canada, Latin America and the U.S. as soloist and chamber musician, playing under Riccardo Muti, Sir Colin Davis, Charles Dutoit,LorinMaazel, Alan Gilbert, Zubin Mehta, Krzysztof Penderecki andMstislavRostropovich.Hehas recorded with the New York Philharmonic, and works of Handel, Bach and Buxtehude on historic instruments. He can be heard on several film soundtracks including, “Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding”, “S.W.A.T”., “Sphere”, “Titus” and “The Power of Myth. Originally from Springfield, Ohio, Dr. Thomas studied at Indiana University, in Vienna, and SUNY Stony Brook. He currently teaches at the Hartt School of Music.
