Michael Sachs

Michael Sachs is the Principal Trumpet, The Cleveland Orchestra and Head-Trumpet Department, Cleveland Institute of Music since 1988. Solo performances include the world premieres of John Williams’ Concerto for Trumpet, Michael Hersch’s Night Pieces for Trumpet and Orchestra, Matthias Pintscher’s Chute d’Etoiles, and the U.S. premiere of Hans Werner Henze'sRequiem. Sachs is the Music Director of Strings Music Festival in Colorado. Author of numerous books including Daily Fundamentals for The Trumpet and The Orchestral Trumpet. Extensively involved in the planning of the National Brass Ensemble concert, recording, and DVD project in 2014 involving music of Gabrieli, Copland, and John Williams. He was a member of the Houston Symphony Orchestra and served on the faculty of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. Sachs earned a B.A. in History from UCLA before attending The Juilliard School of Music. Former teachers include Mark Gould, Anthony Plog, and James Stamp.
