Alex Jokipii
Alex Jokipii joined the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchesta as Principal Trumpet in 1998. He earned his BM and BME degrees at Western Michigan University. As part of his undergraduate curriculum Alex enrolled at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, where he studied for a year with Timofei Dokshizer. Jokipii was awarded a MM degree from the Juilliard School of Music. Before joining the BPO he served as Principal Trumpet of the Charleston (SC) Symphony Orchestra. He has appeared as a soloist at International Trumpet Guild Conferences, with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Ars Nova Chamber Musicians, the Amherst Symphony, and the SUNY Fredonia Wind Ensemble and has performed as a guest Principal Trumpet with the Dallas Symphony, the Florida Orchestra, the Aspen Festival Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Savannah Symphony, and the Rochester Philharmonic. Jokipii is also on the performance faculty at the State University of New York at Fredonia.
