Portrait of Benjamin Hauser

Benjamin Hauser

Benjamin Hauser’s path to the trumpet began somewhat accidentally. In fifth grade, he was denied his first choice of instrument, the French horn, and began learning trumpet instead. After moving to Texas and spending six months without an instrument, Hauser this time selected trumpet in his sixth-grade beginning band class. Unaware of his previous experience, his new directors believed they had discovered a preternatural talent—an assumption he did not hasten to correct.

Hauser is a Bach Artist and Co-Principal Trumpet of the Sarasota Orchestra, joining the ensemble after serving as Associate Principal Trumpet of the North Carolina Symphony. He previously held positions with The Florida Orchestra, Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Round Rock Symphony, and York Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with ensembles including the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Naples Philharmonic, and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared as Guest Principal Trumpet with the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra. Other highlights include performing J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 with the York Symphony Orchestra and appearances with touring Broadway productions of Les Misérables and Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

Hauser earned degrees from Baylor University, where he studied with Wiff Rudd and Mark Schubert, and Southern Methodist University, where he studied with Tom Booth. Following graduate school, he served in the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C., performing with the Concert and Ceremonial Bands and the Navy Band Brass Quintet.

Hauser developed an early passion for music through the public school system and remains grateful for the many educators and programs that gave him opportunities. He now enjoys teaching trumpet and being an active musician in the Sarasota community.
