Daniel Ian Smith is a saxophonist, flutist, educator, and bandleader who has been a full Professor at the esteemed Berklee College of Music for almost 30 years. He has appeared on over 30 recordings and performed at jazz festivals and concert halls throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, Israel, Germany, and Japan to name a few. He has led his group, The New World Jazz Composers Octet for the past 15 years and recorded 4 critically acclaimed records with the group premiering works by Felipe Salles, Ted Pease, Michael Abene, Richard Lowell, Matthew Nicholl, and many others. Daniel has recorded/performed with Ben Monder, Mark Walker, Diego Urcola, Pablo Ablanedo, Fernando Huergo, Johnny Mathis, The Temptations, Patti Lupone, Tim Ray, Mark Helias, Arturo Sandoval, Nick Brignola, Claudio Roditi, Boston Philharmonic, Alea III..In 2022, Daniel was a featured soloist with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project in a performance and recording of Anthony Davis' opera "X:The Life and Times of Malcolm X" which was nominated for a Grammy in 2023 for best Opera Recording.
