David Hunsicker

Dr. David Hunsicker is currently principal trumpet of the Wichita Symphony and the Lancaster Festival Orchestras, Associate Professor of Trumpet at Wichita State University, and the inventor of the Gapper®, a patented device for the third valve slide on the trumpet. His solo performances include the Haydn Trumpet Concerto and Shostakovich’s Concertofor Piano, Trumpet and Strings with the WichitaSymphony Orchestra, and the Haydn Trumpet Concerto and J. S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto #2 with the Lancaster Festival Orchestra. In addition, David has performed dozens of musicals, many as lead trumpet with Music Theatre Wichita (2014-present). He holds a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from Indiana University and a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of Michigan. While completing his Doctor of Musical Arts in Solo Performance from Arizona State University, David completed extensive research on the subject of orchestral auditions for trumpet.
