Dick Oatts, raised in Iowa, inherited his musical journey from his jazz saxophonist father. He embarked on his professional path after studying at Drake University, later joining the renowned Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra upon moving to NYC in 1977. Oatts has graced stages worldwide as a sideman and as a soloist in ensembles, collaborating with names like Thad Jones, Mel Lewis, Jon Faddis, Joe Lovano, and more. His impressive discography includes over 15 albums, and he has imparted his knowledge as a professor at Temple University. Oatts has shared his artistry, wisdom, and passion at jazz festivals and residencies across the globe.
