Doug Lindsey

Dr. Douglas Lindsey joined the University of Oklahoma brass faculty in Fall 2023, bringing extensive experience as a performer, educator, and leader. A renowned soloist, he has performed at the International Trumpet Guild Conference, Atlanta Trumpet Festival, and Trumpet Festival of the Southeast, and delivered recitals nationwide. With Kristy Mezines, he released his debut album, “Impressions of France”, and their ensemble, Duo Solace, actively promotes new composers through dynamic performances.

An accomplished orchestral musician, Dr. Lindsey has served as Principal Trumpet with the Memphis Symphony and Georgia Symphony Orchestra, serves as Associate Principal of the Ft. Smith Symphony, and section trumpet with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony, and Oklahoma City Philharmonic. As a student, he was an orchestral fellowship winner at the Aspen Music Festival for two summers. In chamber music, he has toured with the University of Wisconsin Brass Quintet and Mirari Brass Quintet, and currently plays first trumpet in the University of Oklahoma Faculty Brass Quintet.

As Music Director of the Frontier Brass Band in Norman, Dr. Lindsey has led the ensemble to numerous awards and conducted top brass soloists. He serves as Vice President of the North American Brass Band Association (NABBA) and previously led the Georgia Brass Band as President and Principal Cornet. Since joining the Fountain City Brass Band in 2017, he has performed globally, including at the International Brass in Concert and Scottish Open. In 2023, as principal cornet, he led the band to its 10th North American Brass Band Championship.

Dr. Lindsey holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master of Music from Yale University, where he earned the John Swallow Excellence in Brass Prize, and bachelor’s degrees in music performance and education from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville. A Bach trumpet artist, he has studied with leading musicians and continues to inspire musicians through his artistry and leadership.
