Ed Mann

From his early days as a 9 year old, Ed Mann was given first chair duties on trumpet. By high school, he led his section with the Saratoga, CA band to Vienna where they won the prized International Music Festival and played for heads of state throughout Europe. At UCLA, he was selected to join the Jazz Ensemble 1 as a freshman and played for Frank Sinatra at his Scopus Award presentation. Ed found his way into the studios before landing in radio where he's spent many years promoting instrumental music and broadcasting on stations such as KIIS-FM and KBIG in Los Angeles. More recently, Ed has played the jazz chair with the Rex Merriweather Big Band for five years, the Big Bad Band in Glendale for three, recorded with singer Esther Valentine and on film soundtracks, such as Kiss the Bride with Tori Spelling, High Water and others. He's led two groups to success in LA, the Mann Sextet, which performs regularly at clubs through Southern California alongside Gina Eckstine (yep, Billy's most talented daughter), and Pacific Gas and Brass, a brass quintet featuring Robbie Hioki of the Brian Setzer Band, and Tom Scott, one of Ed's teachers through the years. Ed has also studied with the late Uan Rasey, Lew Soloff, Malcolm McNab and Arturo Sandoval.Ed continues his work in radio while consulting music streaming company Rdio, and co-hosting a jazz program most Sundays over Solarradio.com and Sky Digital in Europe.
