Glenn Miller
Glenn Miller was a big band trombonist and band leader, born on March 1, 1904 and disappeared on December 15, 1944.Between 1939 and 1942 Miller’s own band, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, had 16 number-one records and 69 top-ten hits. This is more than both the Beatles and Elvis Presley did in their careers.Despite being too old to be drafted into military service during World War II, Miller joined the US Army in his late 30s and led a 15 piece big band.On December 15th, 1944, Miller was to fly from Bedford, England to Paris, France where Miller was planning to perform for Allied troops. His plane disappeared and was not recovered. A headstone to Major Glenn Miller lies in Arlington National Cemetery.
