Greg Ochotorena V joined the San Diego Symphony in January 2026. Greg is a Southern California native who grew up in Pomona, California where he began playing the trombone at age 14.

Prior to winning a position in San Diego, Greg served as acting second trombone with the SDSO for the 24/25 season. In Los Angeles Greg built a versatile career as an orchestral musician and commercial performer. He earned a position with the Disneyland Band in 2017 and played second trombone in the Santa Monica Symphony from 2021-2024. Greg also frequently appears as a guest performer with several orchestras up and down the California coast.

Greg holds degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles (MM) and California State University Long Beach (BA). His primary teachers are Los Angeles Philharmonic associate principal trombone James Miller, San Diego Symphony principal trombone Kyle Covington, Pacific Symphony principal trombone Micheal Hoffman, and Los Angeles studio musician Steve Trapanie. Greg attended the Third Coast Trombone Retreat in 2022 and 2023.
