Jim Mair, a versatile musician, excels in saxophone, flute, percussion, jazz piano, and voice. His remarkable journey includes lead tenor saxophone roles in the Canadian High School All Star Big Band and a noted quintet. Down Beat recognized his talent at 19, heralding wider acclaim. A 27-year college professor, he earned accolades such as the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance Alumni Achievement Award. Honorary degrees from the University of West London and League for Innovation Excellence in Education Award underscore his achievements. As a performer and director, he graced global stages including Montreux Jazz Festival and Birdland in NYC. Jim co-founded Kansas City Jazz Orchestra and Kansas City Jazz Alliance, driving jazz education's growth.
