John Kenny

John Kenny (b1957)Trombonist, composer, actor and music archaeologist - John Kenny has performed and broadcast as a soloist in over 40 nations as an interpreter of contemporary, jazz and early music. Since 1983 he has been musical director of the TNT Theatre Company and American Drama Group Europe, collaborating on productions which have toured Europe, Asia and the USA. In 1993 he became the first person for 2,000 years to play the great Celtic war horn known as the Deskford Carnyx, discovered in northern Scotland, and has since developed a unique repertoire that can be heard on eight CDs, film sound tracks, live performance, and on video game “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla”. In 2011 he became the first person to play the Tintignac Carnyx, discovered in southern France, and in 2014 the Etruscan litus and Cornu. He is a professor at both the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and is regularly invited to give masterclasses and lectures at conservatoires and universities throughout Europe, the USA and Asia. In 2017 John Kenny was the recipient of the International Trombone Association Lifetime Achievement Award, one of only two British players ever to have been accorded this honour.
