Artist
Jon Roskilly
Jon Roskilly is a versatile performer who has performed with some of Europe's leading new music ensembles and is equally at home with symphonic repertoire, particularly in his current role of Principal Trombone with Kuopio Symphony Orchestra. He has given world premiere performances of works by composers such as Liza Lim and Rebecca Saunders and was the soloist in the Finnish premiere of Dani Howard's Trombone Concerto with Kuopio Symphony Orchestra in Autumn 2023.
Born in Cheltenham, England, Jon studied with local legend Phil Cowley before beginning his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Simon Wills, John Kenny, Chris Houlding and Eric Crees. He then moved on to study contemporary music at the Basel Music Academy, Switzerland, with trombonist and composer Mike Svoboda. While living in Switzerland, he made a name for himself across Europe as a dedicated and skillful performer with solo performances at the Lucerne Festival and the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music, as well as with chamber groups such as Mike Svoboda's "Les Trombones de Bale" and world-renowned ensembles for new music such as MusikFabrik, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Contrechamps and Collegium Novum Zurich, among many others.
Jon moved to Finland in the summer of 2021 with his family and quickly won the position of Principal Trombone with Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since January 2022. He plays exclusively on Conn instruments and is the proud owner of a Conn 88HNV, which he has been performing on very happily since 2023.
