Jose Ruiz
Jose Ruiz is a seasoned trombone player and educator with 25 years of experience. He received his Bachelor's degree in 2003 and Master’s degree in 2019, both in Jazz Performance from Florida International University in Miami, FL. As a trombone player, he’s had the opportunity to play music accompanying artists in different genres.
In 2011 Jose moved to Los Angeles, California with his wife and family. In California He had many opportunities to play with different artists, joined the local 47 musicians union, and also started to teach part time with the Whittier School district and also giving private trombone lessons.
Currently residing in Miami Florida, after returning in 2016, Jose continues to play and teach with the Dade County Public School system.Throughout the years, Jose has played with several noted artists in the Latin/Latin Jazz/Salsa/Latin Rock/Jazz/Funk/R&B/SKA/Reggae communities, proving his versatility. Some of the artists with whom Jose has shared the stage include: Jimmy Bosch, Wycliffe Gordon, Il Divo, Foreigner, Martha Reeves, Mary Wilson, Charlie Aponte, Christian Castro, Eddie Santiago, Rey Ruiz, Lalo Rodriguez,Tito Nieves, Ismael Miranda, Carlos Oliva, Arturo Sandoval, Nestor Torres, Paquito De Rivera, Richie Rey y Bobby Cruz, Tony Vega, Bobby Valentine, Tito Puente Sr., Tito Puente Jr., and Bill Watrous. In 2012, Jose won a Grammy award for recording the Best Tropical Album of the Year, "Retro."
