Michael Burner

Michael W. Burner is a trombonist and educator based in Washington DC. He is a musician in The United States Army Band, “Pershing’s Own”, joining in 2020. Prior to this, he was an active freelance musician in New York City, performing as a substitute musician with the Metropolitan Opera, New England Symphonic Ensemble, and the Chamber Orchestra of New York. With the Chamber Orchestra of New York, he can be heard on Naxos recordings of Respighi and DiVittorio, as well as commercials for Disney and Kith.A versatile musician, Mr. Burner has performed with Broadway and off-Broadway shows, as well as performances with Queens Choral Society, the Choralis Foundation, and orchestras throughout the United States.During his time as a student, Michael was the second trombonist with the Arkansas Philharmonic. He performed with the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, Tulsa Symphony, toured with Mexican singer Diana Reyes, and was a featured performer for the Crystal Bridges Museum of Modern Art on several occasions. He was the University of Arkansas 2014 Concerto/Aria winner, performing the Grondahl Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra.As a member of the U.S. Army Band, Mr. Burner has performed with the ceremonial, blues, and concert band elements, with performance highlights having included the 2023 Midwest Clinic, and performing with the National Symphony Orchestra for PBS’s Capitol Fourth celebration.A dedicated international educator, Mr. Burner’s students have been admitted to some of the finest schools, universities, and conservatories around the world, including the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Eastman School of Music, Interlochen Academy of the Arts, and FH Laguardia High School.Michael’s teachers and mentors have included Weston Sprott, Demian Austin, Nicholas Schwartz, Dr. Cory Mixdorf, Gerald Sloan, and Douglas Blevins. Mr. Burner exclusively performs on Bach trombones as a Conn Selmer Artist.
