Nacho Cornejo

Mexican trumpeter Ignacio Cornejo Díaz enjoys an active career as an orchestral musician, soloist, chamber performer, and educator. He is currently Principal Trumpet of the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra and Associate Principal Trumpet of the Orchestra of the Palacio de Bellas Artes Opera, performing with two of Mexico's foremost artistic institutions.

Mr. Cornejo received his Bachelor of Music degree from the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico, where he studied with José Oviedo Rodríguez. He has pursued additional studies with many of today's leading trumpet artists, including Philip Smith, Pierre Dutot, James Thompson, Wolfgang Guggenberger, Urban Agnas, Christopher Thomson, Timothy McKeown, Angela Whelan, and Juan Manuel Arpero. In 2010, he continued his professional training in Saarbrücken, Germany, with Peter Leiner, Principal Trumpet of the Saarländischer Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra.

Before assuming his current appointments, Mr. Cornejo served as Principal Trumpet with the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Guanajuato, the State of Mexico Youth Symphony, the Acapulco Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Aguascalientes Symphony Orchestra.

As a soloist, he has performed with orchestras throughout Mexico and has appeared in concerts, festivals, and educational residencies in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, China, Egypt, and the United States.

An active teacher and clinician, Mr. Cornejo has presented masterclasses and lectures at universities, conservatories, and music festivals in Mexico and abroad. He is the founder and Artistic Director of the Mexico Brass Ensemble, a chamber ensemble dedicated to performance, recording, and educational outreach, and the founder of the Trumpet Academy of Texcoco, where he mentors young brass musicians through intensive artistic training.

Through his performances, teaching, and leadership, Ignacio Cornejo Díaz continues to contribute to the artistic development of brass performance in Mexico while maintaining an active presence on the international concert stage.
