Nathan McKinstry

Nathan M. McKinstry, a native of State College, Pennsylvania, joined the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra as Second trumpet at the beginning of the 2025/2026 season. He studied at the Eastman School of Music, earning bachelor's degrees in Trumpet Performance and in Music Theory; at the Manhattan School of Music he obtained a Masters in Music and a Professional Studies Certificate in Orchestral Trumpet. Prior to joining the Met, Nathan was the Second/Associate Principal Trumpet of the Kansas City Symphony. He has also performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Regina Opera Company. His teachers include James Thompson, Micah Wilkinson, David Krauss, Raymond Mase, and Kevin Cobb. In addition to performance, Nathan expresses musicality through composition and arranging. Nathan is a Bach Performing Artist.
