Roberto Rossi
Roberto Rossi graduated in Trumpet from the ''G. Frescobaldi'' Conservatory of Music in Ferrara in June 1987, achieving the highest marks, under the guidance of Professor Prospero Grisendi.
In 1986 and 1987, he attended the Professional Orchestra Training Courses of the Italian Youth Orchestra (Orchestra Giovanile Italiana), serving as principal trumpet. These courses led to audition-based collaborations with some of Italy’s leading orchestras, including the Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Orchestra della Toscana, Teatro La Fenice Orchestra of Venice, and the RAI Symphony Orchestra of Turin.
In 1989, he won the competition for the position of Second Trumpet with the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, a position he held until 1994.
He studied under Professor G. Parodi and, following his training, won the competition for Principal Trumpet with Orchestra della Toscana in September 1994. He subsequently held the position of Principal Trumpet with the Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali of Milan until 1997.
In 1996, he was ranked second eligible candidate in the competition for Principal Trumpet with the RAI National Symphony Orchestra.
From 1995 to 1999, he held the Chair of Trumpet and Trombone at the ''G. Donizetti'' Institute of Music in Bergamo. In the 2016/17 academic year, he held the Chair of Trumpet at the ''G. Verdi'' Conservatory of Music in Turin.
He currently holds the position of Principal Solo Trumpet with the RAI National Symphony Orchestra and is Professor of Trumpet at the ''Ghedini'' Conservatory of Music in Cuneo.
He regularly collaborates with some of Italy’s leading orchestras and opera houses, including the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of Teatro Regio di Parma, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, and the Turin Philharmonic Orchestra.
He has performed under the direction of many of the world’s leading conductors, including: R. Chailly, M. W. Chung, G. Dudamel, R. F. de Burgos, D. Gatti, V. Gergiev, C. M. Giulini, L. Maazel, Z. Mehta, R. Muti, G. Prêtre, W. Sawallisch, G. Sinopoli, Y. Temirkanov, and K. Petrenko.
He has recorded J. Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto with the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, as well as A. Ponchielli’s Trumpet Concerto and Concertos by W. Popp and W. Brandt for trumpet and wind band with the Filarmonica Cittadina di Mirandola (Modena).
He regularly gives advanced training courses in Cannara (Perugia), Gessopalena (Chieti), and Paola (Catanzaro), and collaborates with various Conservatories of Music, giving masterclasses in trumpet and brass instruments.
He has performed J. Haydn’s and J. N. Hummel’s Trumpet Concertos in Japan with the Toyota Orchestra.
In July 2016, as part of the Orchestra Festival in Piazza San Carlo in Turin, he performed J. Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto with the Turin Philharmonic Orchestra.
