Sean Mix

Recognized in 2016 as the 3rd place Finalist for the American Prize in Instrumental Performance, Dr. Sean Mix has previously been named a semifinalist in the Londeix International Saxophone Competition (Bangkok, 2014). He has performed recitals at the 17th and 18th World Saxophone Congresses and performs regularly across North America as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral saxophonist. He has performed and recorded as saxophonist with numerous ensembles throughout the Northeast, including the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Odyssey Opera, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, Monadnock Chamber Orchestra, Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, and Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra. He is a founding member of the Megalopolis Saxophone Orchestra, Jamaica Plain Sax Quartet, and Area 9 Saxophone Ensemble. An enthusiastic interpreter of new music, Sean has collaborated with composers including Thomas Oboe Lee, David Amram, Ken Ueno, Alex Mincek, Gunther Schuller, Christian Lauba, and many more. These partnerships have resulted in several commissions and numerous premieres of new works. Sean holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in woodwind performance from the Boston University College of Fine Arts. He previously studied at New England Conservatory of Music (MM, GD) and the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music (BM). He enjoys working with young saxophone and clarinet students a member of the music faculty at the Wellesley Public Schools, Natick Public Schools, St. Mark’s School, and Dana Hall School. Sean is an Endorsing Artist for Conn Selmer, Inc. and Selmer Paris saxophones.
