Terence Harper
Daniel Terence Harper is a jazz trumpeter from Atlanta, Georgia, and the son of jazz legends Danny and Terry Harper. A member of the renowned Harper Family, Terence is a Rutgers University alum and former student of the late, great trumpet master “Prof” William Fielder, whose mentorship has shaped generations of celebrated musicians around the world.Terence has appeared in many film and television productions, including Bessie, The Nice Guys, The Originals (CW Network), The Color Purple, and the Netflix series A Man In Full. Terence has also appeared in Genius: Aretha (National Geographic) and the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect (starring Jennifer Hudson).He has graced the stages of many major jazz festivals around the world and has performed with many jazz luminaries, including ELEW (Eric Lewis), Jazzmeia Horn, Lil John Roberts, Michole White (actress and songstress), Curtis Lundy, Bobby Watson, Terreon Gully, Jimmy Heath, Nelson Ramos, The Joe Gransden Big Band, Kebbi Williams, Russell Gunn and the Royal Krunk Jazz Orchestra, and Emmy Award-winning actor Keith David.In 2018, Terence recorded on Musiq Soulchild’s Grammy-nominated album Feel the Real (Best R&B Album).Over the years, he has toured and performed globally with a wide range of artists across genres, including Musiq Soulchild, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Solange, Keith Sweat, Shania Twain, Andy Lau (劉德華), Khalil Fong (方大同), Phil Lam (林奕匡), Diana Wang (王詩安), Shila Amzah (茜拉), Johnny Gill, and Otis Redding III.On March 23, 2023, Terence made his debut at the Blue Note Jazz Club in Taipei, Taiwan, and in August 2023, he began a two-month tour across Asia with Chinese pop sensation Xin Liu.In 2024, he made his debut as a bandleader at Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, followed by debut performances at Blue Note Shanghai and Blue Note Beijing.Terence’s upcoming projects include a return performance at Dizzy’s Club on July 25, 2025, and the release of a tribute album honoring his late brother, jazz bassist Dishan Harper, and the late jazz curator and club owner Sam Yi.
