TJ Norris
TJ Norris is a multi-instrumentalist, educator, and recording artist from Jacksonville, Florida. While most known for his soulful sound, drawing from Wycliffe Gordon, JJ Johnson, and Fred Westley, the biggest influence to his sound and his soul are his roots in the Black church. He is a graduate of both Florida A&M University and Florida State University, earning both a BS and MM in Jazz Studies, respectively. TJ relocated to New Orleans in 2015, and quickly became an in-demand Trombonist and Bassist, becoming a member of Delfeayo Marsalis’ Uptown Jazz Orchestra, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. While a DDBB member, he performed alongside Dumpstaphunk, The Killers, and George Porter. TJ has recorded on various studio and live albums, including PJ Morton’s “Watch The Sun”, NOJO’s “Tribute to Allen Toussaint”, and he is the bassist on “Live at the Maple Leaf” by The Rumble Feat. Chief Joseph Boudreaux. He is also featured on the soundtracks to Netflix’s “Ma Rainey‘s Black Bottom” and Tyler Perry’s “A Jazzman’s Blues”. In 2022, TJ began touring as the trombonist with PJ Morton and most recently performs with Maroon 5 for their Las Vegas Residency.
