Todd Yukumoto
A performer at home in both classical and pop settings, Todd Yukumoto's musical versatility has made him a performer who is in demand both at home, on the mainland, and abroad. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi Mr. Yukumoto attended the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Music Education. He subsequently received a Master’s degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of Texas at Austin studying with world-renowned saxophonist Harvey Pittel. Mr. Yukumoto maintains a busy schedule as a classical performer in a variety of genres.
For nearly 30 years he has performed with the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, with whom he was recently featured as soloist in the American premiere of the Kapustin Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra. He has also appeared as a featured soloist with groups ranging from The Royal Hawaiian Band, the Anchorage Civic Orchestra, to the University of Hawaiʻi Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. As a commercial saxophonist Mr. Yukumoto has arranged, recorded and toured with many of Hawaii’s top artists including Kalapana, Henry Kapono, Kapena, Manaʻo Company, Ekolu, Micah G and Fiji. In addition to his performance schedule, Mr. Yukumoto has taught as Lecturer of Saxophone at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa since 1995.
His commitment towards music education has led him to create the University of Hawaiʻi Saxophone Choir and the Hawaiʻi Saxophone Foundation; a non-profit organization designed to promote saxophone education and awareness through workshops, master classes and performing groups. The UH Saxophone Choir is approaching its 30th year and has performed in Japan and the continental United States. Currently, Mr. Yukumoto is a Clinician for the Conn Selmer Corporation, Lecturer of Saxophone at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Director of the University of Hawaiʻi Saxophone Choir and President of the Hawaiʻi Saxophone Foundation.
