The Armstrong Legacy

Armstrong was founded in 1931 by William Teasdale Armstrong with one conviction: a flute should be reliable, comfortable, and responsive, so the player can focus on what matters most: the music. As his work grew from repairs to instruments for students, that same standard of quality became Armstrong's signature.

When William passed the legacy to his son, Edward, Armstrong expanded to meet the rising world of student and community music, building flutes that were durable and classroom-ready, accommodated a wide range of musical expressions, and maintained consistency through the daily realities of practice, rehearsal, and performance.

That is why generations of flute players have started their musical journeys with Armstrong. It makes progress feel natural, effort feel rewarding, and playing feel good. That is the Joy of Playing.

A Flute That Supports Every Step

Armstrong flutes are built for comfort, balance, and dependable playability that support confident progress from the first lesson through advanced study. Student models feature closed hole designs and offset keywork to support finger placement and alleviate strain, ideal for beginners. Armstrong's alto model adds a silver-plated headjoint, body, and key arms for brilliant resonance and stable intonation. The smooth and responsive key action and expressive range are what make Armstrong flutes exceptionally easy and fun to play.
