Alfred Watkins

Dr. Watkins, Director of Bands (ret.) at Lassiter High School (GA) received his Bachelor of MEd degree from Florida A&M University and was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Music Education from the VanderCook College of Music. Prior to his arrival at Lassiter, he served for six years as Director of Bands at Murphy High School in Atlanta, GA. Under his leadership, the Lassiter Band included five symphonic bands, two marching bands, two jazz band, four percussion ensembles, three winter guards and numerous performing chamber ensembles. He is the current Co-founder, Musical Director and Conductor of the Cobb Wind Symphony (1999) and is a recipient of the Midwest Clinic Medal of Honor.

Mr. Watkins is a member of the American Bandmasters Association, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Beta Mu, NBA, Minority Band Directors National Association and NAfME. He is a three-time recipient of John Philip Sousa Foundation Awards. He has conducted 34 All-State Bands and is in the Conn Selmer Hall of Fame.
