Randy Greenwell
Randy began his tenure as Executive Director of the Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA Inc.) on July 1, 2025 after thirty-two years as a music educator (all in Indiana) and 9 years in the music business industry as an Educational Support Manager and Educational Clinician for Conn Selmer Inc.Mr. Greenwell taught instrumental music in three school districts in Indiana; Winamac School Corporation (1985-86), Yorktown School Corporation (1986-1993), and the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township (1993-2016.)Randy’s ensembles achieved the highest standards of excellence, particularly during his time at Lawrence Central High School, where they were four-time ISSMA Class A State Marching Band Champions, five-time ISSMA State Concert Band Champions, and two-time Bands of America Grand National Champions. His wind ensembles were selected to perform at the Music for All National Concert Festival on two separate occasions, and his ensembles performed at numerous Indiana Music Educator Association conferences throughout his tenure.The Lawrence Central Marching Band was a consistent finalist at all ISSMA state competitions and Bands of America Grand National Championships, and appeared in two National Tournament of Roses Parades, one Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, one Fiesta Bowl Parade, and numerous appearances at the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade and Hollywood Christmas Parades. In 2001, the Lawrence Central High School Marching Band was awarded the Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Shield for outstanding national achievement in the marching arts.Mr. Greenwell served on the ISSMA State Board for many years, and was ISSMA State Board President in 2001. Mayor Bart Peterson proclaimed Randy a Distinguished Citizen of the City of Indianapolis in 2001.Randy is an active member of Phi Beta Mu, and was elected to their Band Director Hall of Fame in 2018. He received the Outstanding Indiana Band Director Award from Phi Beta Mu in 2001. Music for All/Bands of America inducted Greenwell into the Hall of Fame in 2018, and he received the National Federation of High School’s Outstanding Music Educator Award in 2022, as well as the Indianapolis Wind Symphony James Calvert Outstanding Music Educator Award in 2023. Greenwell was inducted into the Conn Selmer Institute Hall of Fame in 2024.Randy currently serves as Music Director and Conductor of the Greater Greenwood Community Band (since 2018), and serves as an Adjunct Professor and Director of Instrumental Activities and Head of Brass Studio at Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana. In addition to these responsibilities, Mr. Greenwell serves at the Chief Judge/Coordinator for the Florida Color Guard Circuit Marching Band events.Mr. Greenwell has adjudicated for over forty years, including DCI, BOA, WGI and ISSMA. He continues to guest conduct honor bands across the country and present on relevant music education topics at regional and national music conferences throughout the United States.
